EU type-examination (ATEX)

How to obtain the EU-type examination certificate

In order to obtain the EU type examination, according to Directive 2014/34/EU (module B) Annex III, an informal apllication has to be submitted to FSA GmbH together with the technical documentation. These documentation shall allow an assessment of the product’s conformity with the requirements of the Directive 2014/34/EU.

The application shall include the following information and documentation: 

  • Name and address of the manufacturer, if the application is submitted by an authorized representative, additionally his/her name and address is required
  • a written declaration that the application has not been submitted to any other notified body
  • a general description including information about the intended use and a description of the application limits
  • a manual in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX), Annex II, paragraph 1.0.6.
  • conceptual design and manufacturing drawings and schemes of components, sub-assemblies, circuits, etc.,
  • descriptions and explanations necessary for the understanding of those drawings and schemes and the operation of the product,
  • an adequate analysis and assessment of the risks,
  • a list of the harmonised European standards applied in full or in part.
    If harmonised standards have not been applied, a description of the solutions adopted to meet the essential health and safety requirements of an-nex II of the Directive 2014/34/EU is necessary. A a list of other relevant technical specifications applied shall be included. If harmonised standards are applied partially, the technical documentation shall specify the parts which have been applied.
  • results of design calculations, examinations, etc. if relevant
  • test reports if relevant
  • representative test samples.
    The notified body may request further specimens if needed for carrying out the test Programme

 The EU type-examination is confidential. However FSA GmbH is obliged to publish issued EU type-examination certificates.
